Palm Beach County Information

As one of the three counties making up the South Florida metropolitan area, Palm Beach County is the biggest in Florida, in terms of area. Its boundaries extend from the Atlantic Ocean to the west, halfway across the state to neighboring Hendry County. It also shares a border with Lake Okeechobee to the northwest. Although it has the largest area, nearly 40 percent of the population lives along the Atlantic coast in unincorporated communities. Large cities in the county include West Palm Beach (the county seat), Boca Raton, and Boynton Beach.

Palm Beach County is also the wealthiest in the state, and as such, it has a lot to offer residents and visitors. With its tropical climate, it is perfect for plants, and the area boasts two botanical gardens and a Japanese garden, all open to the public. There is also the Palm Beach Zoo located in Dreher Park with over 1,700 animals on exhibit. Lion Country Safari in Loxahatchee was voted the 3rd best zoo in the nation by USA Travel Guide in 2009, and here you can drive through while observing giraffes, chimpanzees, zebras, and, of course, lions. One wildlife refuge and numerous parks and green spaces comprise the county as well. Wellington, a city in the northern part of the county, puts on the largest horse show in the world and is known for its polo and equestrian events. Two Major League Baseball teams, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Florida Marlins, participate in their spring training at facilities in Jupiter. Finally, a variety of stores and restaurants abound in the county, providing a diverse selection for people to choose from for their shopping and dining needs.
