Erie County Information
Erie County is located in the western section of New York State. The county is named after Lake Erie, which was named after a local tribe of Native Americans. The chief city of this county is Buffalo and its population is pushing one million residents. There is much to do and see in this county from professional sports to historic landmarks and parks. If you are a big sports fan, catch a Buffalo Bills game at Ralph Wilson Stadium, or if the NHL is more your style, be sure to watch the Buffalo Sabres. There is also a minor league baseball team and a lacrosse team.
Erie County also has a lot of family activities that are available. The county fair, also referred to as America's Fair, is the second largest county fair in the country. It is located in Hamburg and takes place every August. If you are looking for other outside activities, try the local zoo and botanical gardens. Another popular option for outside entertainment is the numerous parks available in the county. State parks are plentiful in the county and include activities such as camping, hiking, and a beach. With such a wide array of attractions and activities, it is no wonder that Erie County is rapidly growing.
