Queens County Information
Queens County is one of the five boroughs of New York City, better known simply as Queens. Though it is definitely an urbanized area, Queens is unique in that it has a suburban feel about it as well. There are many distinct neighborhoods in the borough; in fact, most of the residents identify themselves more with their neighborhood than anything else. Like other areas of New York City, Queens has a thriving immigrant population, and is home to many Irish, Italians, Greeks, Hispanics, Filipinos, and Arabs, among others. While most of the neighborhoods are comprised primarily of one ethnicity, many are made up of an interesting mix of several cultures. In fact, the neighborhoods of Queens make the county the most diverse in the United States.
With all these differing cultures, residents and visitors can enjoy a wide range of food and music that will appeal to the senses. In one day, you could sample dishes from countries all over the world and never leave Queens! Aside from the diverse meal options, Queens also offers much in the way of sightseeing. The Queens Museum of Art boasts an exciting collection of contemporary art pieces from all over the world, serving as a reflection of the diversity of the area. The museum is located in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, which was the site of two World's Fairs. The New York Hall of Science is also in Queens and features hand-on science and technology exhibits that are fun for the whole family. Queens truly has a lot to offer; if you're in the area permanently or are just visiting, you won't be disappointed.
