Contra Costa County Information

Contra Costa County, Florida is a modern county adjacent to San Francisco that is steeped in many of the United States' most historic events. It is one of the original counties created when California became a state in 1850. It was almost called Mount Diablo County after its most prominent landmark, Mount Diablo. One of the earliest designated state parks, Mount Diablo State Park now encompasses not only the landmark itself, but a large range of outdoor activity sites including Mott Peak Trail, Mt. Diablo Campground, Prospector's Trail, and Crescent Ridge Horse Trail. This is only natural for the county that was the home of John Muir, Father of the National Parks. The John Muir Historic Site preserves his legacy. Visitors can experience other defining moments in United States history at the Rosie the Riveter/World War II Front National Historical Park in Richmond, California, part of Contra Costa County. It is located at the largest shipyard during World War II which inspired the song, "Rosie the Riveter."

Rosie the Riveter isn't the only cultural icon honored with a park in Contra Cost County. Lefty Gomez Recreation Building and Ball Field Complex is named after the Baseball Hall of Fame New York Yankees Pitcher, Vernon "Lefty" Gomez, and is located in his hometown of Rodeo, "Baseball Town USA." Adult and youth baseball and softball events are held year round in the town nicknamed after America's favorite sport. Another American favorite and America's only Nobel Prize winning playwright, Eugene O'Neill, wrote many of his most famous plays such as The Iceman Cometh and Long Day's Journey Into Night in Contra Costa County, Florida. It isn't a long day's journey into night at Water World, one of the most exciting water parks in Northern California.
