Orange County Information

In spite of its small size, Orange County in Southern California is one of the most populous counties in the United States - sixth, in fact. With its position between Los Angeles and San Diego along the coastline, the county is known for its beautiful beaches (Laguna Beach and Newport Beach are two of the most popular) and idyllic surf spots. Nearby Catalina Island gets about a million visitors each year, with people coming to take glass bottom boat tours of the reefs and shipwrecks or to snorkel or scuba dive. The island is also home to great beaches, a casino, shops, and restaurants. Back on the mainland, Orange County also boasts beautifully planned parks where visitors can hike, bike, or just relax and enjoy the manicured scenery.

Orange County does have a reputation for being quite affluent, with upscale communities, shopping, dining, and more. Interestingly, Orange is also the largest county in the U.S. to have gone bankrupt, which it did in 1994. Obviously, the area has rebounded since then and is often portrayed as a "ritzy" area. Indeed, the cities within the county have much to offer in terms of restaurants and high-end shops. However, the county is also well known for its major attractions of Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm. Residents and visitors alike enjoy these amusement parks, which get millions of visitors each year. If you live in Orange County or are just visiting, you'll quickly realize that your entertainment options - indoor or outdoor - are plentiful.
