Located in the scenic Pacific Northwest, King County offers a diverse landscape that includes everything from rocky beaches to towering mountains to dense evergreen forests. And while its natural beauty is undeniable, the County also features a diverse urban area complete with downtown skyscrapers, trendy boutiques and restaurants, and major league sports. Known as a mecca for urban hipsters, Seattle and the other communities in King County attract millions of people each year, many of whom decide to make it their permanent home. Seattle itself is well-known for coffee (Starbucks, anyone?) and its rock music scene. If you're just heading to the area for the first time, there are a few places of note to check out.
The Space Needle in Seattle is one of the most visited locales in the area, along with Pike Place Market by the water. Here you can sample some of the freshest produce, fish, and other foods around, or you can browse the many shops and vendors selling other items. Seattle is also home to countless cafes, coffee shops, sushi bars, and more. If you need a little culture, Seattle has you covered here as well, with museums, theaters, galleries, and live music. Beyond the big city, you'll find that the County is also known for its outdoor appeal, with its many beaches and wooded hiking trails. Two islands are included in King County - Vashon Island and Maury Island, both located in Puget Sound. These islands can be accessed via ferry or plane, and can make for interesting day trips.
